Let's Go Mavs!

As you already know, Game #1 of the NBA Finals is tonight in Miami. And you already know that Big Ran and I will be cheering for the Dallas Mavericks. As they gear up to face The Three Stooges, here's the playlist I imagine Dirk and the boys might be listening to since they've arrived in America's Wang:

1. "Welcome to Miami"-Will Smith

2. "The Heat is On"- (Glenn Frye)- And they'll be shutting if off, starting tonight!

3. "Glamour Boys"-Living Colour- clearly mocking Bron Bron and D-Bag

4. "Wild Wild West"-The Escape Club-Getting back to their roots in Texas. Plenty of songs out there about Miami, but sometimes the West needs airtime as well!

5. "Crybaby"-Mariah Carey-because we know what's going to happen as soon as a foul is called against the Heat. Look familiar?

6. "Jet Airliner"-Steve Miller Band- Just to get Jason "The Jet" Terry pumped up! (Like he needs our help with his lucky tattoo!)

7. "We Made It"-Linkin Park ft. Busta Rhymes-Yes they did! Much to the dismay of the Lakers and others in the League!

8. "Winner"-Justin Timberlake and Jamie Foxx- This one is especially for Dirk!

9. "Been Caught Stealin'"-Jane's Addiction- This song is appropriate for a couple of reasons. First, we'll be catching the Mavs stealing the ball a lot, and secondly, when they win it all, people will definitely be saying the Mavs "stole" the series from the Heat.

10. "Mama Said Knock You Out"-LL Cool J- Don't call it a comeback, they've been here for years!

There are plenty of other songs as well, we obviously haven't even touched on David Hasselhoff's appearances in the playlist, but this is just a sampling!! Let's go Mavs!!

Rapture Take Three...

Ok, so it's Monday, May 23rd and "The Rapture" was scheduled for Saturday, May 21st. We're all still here, so I guess there were some miscalculations. Hey, it happens, right? Sometimes predicting the end of the world is more difficult than it seems.  Personally, I'm just bummed that our playlists are null and void now. But I'm thinking of Harold (can I call him Hal?) Camping and how embarrassing this must be. Actually, for him, I'm sure it's not embarrassing at all because he's clearly a headcase. So, in his honor, I'd like to toss out another playlist of the songs he might be listening to right now as he reflects on his mistake and gears up for his next attempt:

"Harold Camping's Recalculating The Rapture Mix"

1. "Oops I Did It Again"-Britney Spears: Yup, Hal 'did it again', 'it' being incorrectly predicting the end of the world.

2. "I Missed Again"-Phil Collins: Like the great former Genesis front man sings, "I'm waiting in line, but it seems like I wasted my time...cause I missed again!"

3. "You're Only Human (Second Wind)"-Billy Joel: Hal, don't be so hard on yourself, like Mr. Joel says, "you're only human, you're SUPPOSE to make mistakes!"

4. "Still Standing"-Elton John: Pretty self-explanatory

5. "Stayin' Alive"- Bee Gees: Because it looks like, "whether (we're) a a brother or whether (we're a mother), we'll be stayin' alive"

6. "Try Again"-Aaliyah: He needs to remember that 'if first you don't succeed, dust yourself off and try again' (and again, and maybe even again after that!)

7. "Made You Look"-Nas: Maybe this was all just a publicity stunt and he achieved the end goal of making all of us look in one way or another.

8. "It Wasn't Me"-Shaggy: At this point, being wrong twice publicly might be a little embarrassing, so I can understand if he tries to deny, deny, deny....

9. "Blame It"-T-Pain: Once he finds out that he can't say it wasn't him (track 9)-I'm sure he's going to blame it on the alcohol)

10. "My Favorite Mistake"-Sheryl Crow

11. "Just My Imagination"-The Temptations: And, in conclusion, that's really all it was, his imagination, running away with him!

I can see it now. Harold at his desk with calendars, a bible (notice, not THE BIBLE because he's CLEARLY not following that) telescopes, sundials, and maps, recalculating. I'm keeping all my playlists and my non-perishables in anticipation of the Real Rapture.

Rapture Dance Party

In preparation for "The Rapture" tomorrow, I've put together a playlist and I'll be sending out my Rapture Dance Party E-vite shortly.  I mean, if the world is ending, we might as well enjoy some sweet tunes while it's happening. I'll supply the snacks and other treats, just BYOB in case we don't have your favorite:

  1. "It's the End of the World" - R.E.M.: and yes, I do feel fine, because I didn't want to continue on with this cube living any damn way.
  2. "The Final Countdown"-Europe: "We're leaving together, but still it's farewell, And maybe we'll come back to Earth, who can tell?"
  3. "In the End"-Linkin Park: Because, it's true, "in the end, it doesn't even matter".
  4. "Thanks for the Memories"-Fall Out Boy: I'll dedicate this one to all of my family and friends.
  5. "Enter Sandman"-Metallica: "Take my hand, we're off to Never, Never land"
  6. "Danger"-Mystikal: This is not only a word of warning, but it's also encouraging the listeners (us) to 'get on the floor'--what better way to enjoy "The Rapture" than from the dance floor?
  7. "24 Hours to Live"-Ma$e: Wow, that's a blast from the past, huh? Philosophical rappers Puff Daddy and Ma$e pose the question: "If you had 24 hours to live... what would you do?" Before reminding us, "That's some deep sh*t right there. A lot of pressure how would you handle it?"  Maybe we should take some of his suggestions into consideration. For example, we could, "turn out all the hoes that's heterosexual", "smack conceited n***** right off the pedestal", or "do good sh*t, like take kids from the ghetto, show them what they could have if they never settled". There are plenty of other ideas presented in this ditty as well. Take a listen for yourself.
  8. "99 Problems"-Jay-Z: Because really, if "The Rapture" does happen, I know that when God and I chat, He's going to have at LEAST 99 problems to address with me.  It's been an imperfect 32 years, what can I say?
  9. "Break on Through"-The Doors: yup, once it gets here, we're all going to be going to the other side.
  10. "Breathe and Stop"-Q-Tip: Pretty much how I envision the end. One second we'll all be alive and breathing, next second it will all be stopped. And, this is a great dance song, so "The Rapture" party will be on and popping with this in the background.
  11. "Party All The Time"- This might have nothing to do with "The Rapture" in your opinion. But for me, this song is appropriate for any situation.
  12. "Until the End of the World"-U2
  13. "Caught up in the Rapture"-Anita Baker: A nice, slow ballad from 80's R&B diva Anita Baker. What a perfect way to close out the playlist!
Call me for directions to the crib. See you all tomorrow...or, will I?

*Big Ran Note:  I find it amazing that KC can just pull up songs for a list like this like it ain't no thang.  Like "The Rapture" and their roller skating party, here is another video that really screams rapture to me.  As weird as this video is, I cannot look away.

Aso, a great call by KC on "Final Countdown."  Here's an epic version:

Just when I think "The Final Countdown" can't get any better than the original version, Big Ran proves me wrong. Well done, my friend, well done.-KC Jones
