Lunchtime Look-a-Like

So, if you tuned into the Celtics-Lakers game yesterday, you may have seen New England hero, baby daddy extraordinaire, Tom Brady, rocking glasses.  I am assuming they are for fashion only, but it could explain his less than stellar Super Bowl and pass that was juuuuuuust a bit off to Wes Welker.

Have we done a TB-Biebs look-a-like before?  I'm not sure, I'm to lazy to look.  I do have two questions though:

1.  Is it a good thing if your All Pro QB is following the fashion trends of a teenage pop star?
2.  Is it possible that Biebs is TB's first kid?  TB is 34, Biebs is 18.  So you're saying there's a chance...

I can't find video of it yet, but how bout TB bro-ing it up with Kobe at the game?  Just shaking hands like they are going to hang out later on that night.  Dude, come on, would it kill you to show a little support for the Boston team, and tell Kobe to go back to Eagle, CO?

El Sesenta por Ciento de las Veces Funciona Todo el Tiempo

On the ride into work this morning, I was listening to the Will Ferrell interview on the Sports Hub with Toucher and Rich.  This was the first time I had heard about his new movie, "Casa de mi Padre,"  which is all in Spanish with English subtitles.  Because of that, it won't be a big hit at the box office, but this has to prove to be an awesome movie to rent and watch with buddies, right?  That could be tough too, since most people will be reading the movie, but probably still awesome.  Anyway, this movie will probably be pure insanity and weirdness for an hour and a half.  I guarantee you that my high school Spanish teachers would play this in class just to avoid having to speak with us or do actual work.  I didn't go to a very good high school.

I really think you could watch "Anchorman" or "Step Brothers" in Spanish and they would still be awesome.

El sesenta por ciento de las veces funciona todo el tiempo.

I Need to Write Things Down

I don't necessarily mean on toilet paper, like this epic scene from Lethal Weapon 2, but maybe like the old Norm MacDonald, "note to self" on a voice recorder.  However, I always come up with the most awesome, funny, world shaking ideas when I have had a couple of drinks, hop online to start doing research for the blog, but then get side tracked and never remember them.

Let's take this past Friday.  I get home and as planned, my wife is out with work friends, so I start drinking whiskey, grill some steaks, and watch college hoops.  About three hours later, I am pretty drunk and my wife calls me to meet them out at a bar.  Cool, but there is no way I can drive.  None.  Also, strangely, there is a snow squall going on.  So, I make a great decision, and walk to the bar, knowing we'll be able to get a ride back.

Now, remember, I'm pretty hammered and probably staggering a bit down the streets in the snow.  The snow flakes are huge, so at one point I am trying to catch flakes in my mouth (and failing), when I see that someone is about a half a block up and they definitely crossed the street because they thought I was a crazy person.

I'm going off on a tangent here, because what I wanted to talk about needing to write things down.  When I woke up on Saturday, I get back on the laptop, see the tabs I had open on my browser and have no idea what I was looking at.  I had that Lethal Weapon parody up, which is awesome, but I have no idea why I was looking for the toilet bomb scene.  However, it was probably going to be awesome.

Ugh.  I should probably sprinkle some Adderall or Ritalin in my booze.

Stuck In My Head

Why?  I have no idea.  How is this song stuck in my head?  Also, there was the fact that instead of the actual lyrics, I was singing "Bermuda, Bahamas, come on pretty mama, Hipolito Pichardo, come on why don't we go..."

You know who Hipolito Pichardo is?  A pretty crappy major league pitcher for the Royals and Red Sox in the early 90s to early 2000s.  However, he has a dope name.

How about John Stamos in that video?  Dude, sweet hat and nice job wearing a Beach Boys t-shirt while on stage with them.  I thought it was an unwritten rule that you shouldn't wear a t-shirt of the band you were seeing at a concert.  If that's the case, what's the rule for performing on stage with them?  That's like me wearing a t-shirt with my picture and name on it to work.  Actually, that might be kind of awesome.

Stuck In My Head

Awwww yeah, bitches.  Black Keys concert day!  I'm sharing the jam that really got me into The Black Keys because sharing is caring.

What are the chances I can grow a thick-ass beard by tonight?  Have to be pretty good, right?

I don't know what type of shape I'm going to be in tomorrow.  Cs game last night, thanks to KC, concert tonight?  I'm too old for this.

Very Nice, High Five...Dumbass

Report: Tyrone officer said no to ‘high-five’ from DUI suspect

Suspect allegedly thanked officer who stopped him

TYRONE - A Tyrone man who allegedly drove up on police without headlights is facing drunken driving charges.
Gerald C. Decker, 27, of 314 Cranberry St. allegedly said, "Thanks, buddy" and tried to "high five" a Tyrone officer who was on foot and flagged Decker down to tell him he was driving without headlights, court records show.
"That's not how it works," Officer Adam Bonsell told Decker before having him step out of the vehicle, according to Decker's arrest papers.
According to police, Bonsell was on the 1500 block of Columbia Avenue about 1:20 a.m. Feb. 19 dealing with an unrelated incident when he was informed a vehicle was headed toward the scene without lights.
Decker allegedly failed several field sobriety tests before he was taken to Tyrone Hospital for a blood test. Police note Decker's blood alcohol content was 0.219 percent, above the legal limit of 0.08 percent.
Decker is charged with driving under the influence, driving without headlights, driving on a suspended license and careless driving. An arraignment and a preliminary hearing are slated for March 27.
Bro, probably just a a killer night at Applebee's, having some frozen margaritas, rocked out to some Nickleback, and finally scored fat Becky's number.  Life was on cruise control until he decided to get behind the wheel and high five a cop.  Now he watch his corn hole in federal pound-me-in-the-ass prison.

Stuck In My Head

Sorry everybody, but I am going to The Black Keys concert tomorrow night, so I have been crushing their jams like 24-7.  As a result, that's pretty much all I have rattling around in my dome.  Starts out slow, but half way through they start friggin' ripping it.

My wife gets paid at midnight tomorrow, so I'm spending her entire paycheck on beer and t-shirts.  Gonna be awesome.

American Mutha F*ckin' Idol

I'm not afraid to admit that I watch American Idol with Mrs. Big Ran.  I won't say I love when it is on for six hours a week, but once they get down to the nitty gritty, I get into it.  Plus, I am part of a 200 person American Idol Pool that can win you some serious cash.  I feel as though as soon as you start gambling on something it instantly becomes more manly.

Just like last week's run down on "Dancing with the Mutha F*ckin' Stars," I'll go through everyone remaining after they cut almost half of the top 25.  However, I have actually seen these people sing, so I may have a little (useless) insight.  Once again, in alpha order...

1.  Deandre Brackensick

OK, I am no musical genius or producer, but I could not believe the judges liked his first performance.  I don't deny the degree of difficulty, but who would listen to this?

This would have been more accurate:

Vegas has him near the bottom on the board for a reason, with 20-to-1 odds.  I have no clue how he made it past the top 25.

2.  Hollie Cavanagh

This girl can definitely sing, but she's boring.  She's originally from the UK and now lives in Texas.  The best part of her performance was when she was being interviewed and I told my wife it sounded like she was British and my wife responded with, "No, but I think she may be deaf."  That was awesome.  Hollie's 10-to-1 in Vegas which seems about right.  I think she could stick around a few weeks and probably makes the top 10.  I don't think she has any shot to win unless I start seeing some serious spark.

3.  Colton Dixon

Sounds and looks like an emo rocker.  He could definitely be the lead singer of a band and I think he could stick around for a while.  We'll have to see how he adapts to the different themes ever week.  5-to-1 in Vegas, so he is definitely near the top for the gambling crowd.

4.  HeeJun Han

I love this dude.  He isn't the best singer in the group, but he is hilarious.  He could be a comedian if this doesn't work out for him.  Vegas has him at 10-to-1, so the middle of the pack, which seems about right.  He works with special needs children, so that has to count for something, right?  He'll get most of his votes from the coasts and not middle America.  However, that's probably the case for about half of the contestants.

5.  Jermain Jones

Dude is enormous and has a mad deep voice.  I don't think he has a shot, but I do enjoy seeming him stand next to Ryan Seacrest.

I was shocked America voted him in.  Vegas has him at 14-to-1 and I am surprised he's that high.  Maybe he's likable enough to hang on for a few weeks.  Boring, no range.

6.  Skylar Laine

My wife loves country music and I hate it, so I will listen to her when it comes to country folks.  This girl is Reba McEntire.  High energy.  She is 100% country and we have Whitney Houston week coming up.  This girl may need to take a bunch sleeping pills and Valium, a la Whitney just to mellow out.  Too soon?  10-to-1 odds, another middle-of-the packer.

7.  Joshua Ledet

This dude can sing like hell and he could absolutely MURDER Stevie Wonder week coming up.  We'll see if he is likable enough and can vary his style enough to stick around.  9-to-1 in Vegas, so he is fifth on their list.

8.  Shannon Magrane

Two fun facts:  Her dad is Joe Magrane, who was a MLB pitcher, mostly with the Cardinals, and is like 6'8".  Shannon is also like 16 and freakishly tall too.  Vegas has her at 5-to1 which absolutely shocks me.  Middle America will probably love her, I can't get a read on her yet.  She's ayight, I guess.  I would guess lower-middle-of-the-pack.

9.  Phillip Pillips

Works in a pawn shop that his family owns in Georgia and his style has been compared to Dave Matthews.  I hate Dave Matthews, but I like this dude.  Crushed Phil Collins' "In the Air Tonight" last week, so he made Vince Wilfork and Kevin Garnett very happy.  He is my wife's favorite and I think he will be top three and definitely in the mix.  Vegas has him first on their board at 7-to-2.

10.  Jeremy Rosado

OK, first things first, this kid has a nice voice, but no shot to win.  He absolutely lost me last week with his crying and kissing of J-Lo's very nice ass.

Cut the sh!t dude.  Come on, there's no crying in American Idol!  Well, I guess there actually is, and a lot of it.  I hope he loses this week.  You can't be throwing a crying fit just to get your way, this is America.  Vegas has him at 30-to-1.  GTFO, chubbs.

11.  Jessica Sanchez

Crushed it after having the flu or some sh!t.  This chick is for real.  I expect her to cush the other contestants' collective will to live after Whitney Houston week.  I would be surprised if she didn't make it to the final.  Vegas has her at 7-to-1.  Could be a solid bet if you have money to burn.

12.  Elise Testone

I have to be honest, I haven't seen anything she has done and missed last week since I was probably taking a dog out.  Let's watch together, shall we?

Good bluesy type of vibe, but enough with these broads singing Adele.  We only have so much room for husky singers.  I kid, I kid.  I wonder if she'll have the flexibility to pull it off or the creativity to mold songs into her style.  Vegas has her at 15-to-1.  I think she sticks around three weeks at most.  The judges picked her to keep going, so she has some talent.  J-Lo thinks she may be the best singer of the bunch.

13.  Erika Van Pelt

She's originally from Rhode Island and is a DJ.  She can definitely sing and actually seems normal, but she definitely doesn't have the "American Idol Look."  Vegas has her at 25-to-1.  I think she'll stick around because she can really sing, but she's not in the mix to win.

My guess?  Phillip Phillips vs. Jessica Sanchez in the final; two very contrasting styles.  I'll share my American Idol Top Ten when we get there.

Stuck In My Head

Today, literally half of my office is out with the stomach virus that is going around.  Bad times.  I think I am going to close my door and not let anyone in unless they have a face mask and rubber gloves on.

In other work related news, don't do what Big ran did last week.  For some reason we were pulling up our id pictures on our intra-office website.  And one person (my manager before I had a bit of a job change), said to pull hers up because she was like 8 months pregnant and huge in it.  She is a tiny person, but honestly BLEW UP when she was pregnant with each of her two kids.  Without seeing the picture, I said, sarcastically, that "At least [she] didn't put on muich weight while she was pregnant."  Ooof.  Not smart.  She definitely got irritated, and I even tried to save myself about how you would never know she had kids now.  That didn't work.  She's still pissed.  So, don't do that.

UPDATE! THE KANGAROO WILL STAY!

OMG I want a baby kangaroo now!

A local family has won a battle with their HOA over an unusual pet.

The Dreis family has a 6-month-old kangaroo, Mike.

But they didn’t get Mike just for fun – he’s actually there to help the family’s 16-year-old special-needs daughter, Kala.

In the Dreis household, Mike the kangaroo is much more than just a pet - he's a beloved member of the family.

For that reason, the actions of the homeowners association where they live in Spring, Texas, has come as a shock.

Jeni and Nick Dreis bought the red kangaroo about a month ago, and are taking care of him for the next year before he’s moved to a wildlife park.

Mike’s closest companion is the Dreis’ 16-year-old daughter Kayla, who has Down’s syndrome.  Kayla says, “I like to snuggle with him. He's silly. And he loves me.”

But on February 20, the Dreis’ received a terse letter from the Estate of Legends Ranch Homeowners Association, threatening to cut their relationship short.

The letter read: 'Please immediately remove the kangaroo from your property as it is not a household pet nor can it be maintained for any business purposes. You are asked to correct the violation immediately.'

While red kangaroos are the largest of the marsupial class when they reach adulthood, Mike only weighs about 10 pounds.

But it’s a happy—or should we say hoppy—ending for Kala. The HOA has had a change of heart and will let the family keep Mike.

“We regret the miscommunication. Now that we have more information about the situation, it was never our intention to separate this beautiful girl from the kangaroo,” The Estates of Legends Ranch HOA said in a written statement. “We know that the baby kangaroo will only live in our community for a brief time until a more suitable home can be found. We plan to work with the family to do what’s best for all homeowners.”

It's not often that people will reverse course, admit they may have made a mistake, and actually do something to help a family like this.  A nice story as we head into the weekend.  I just hope nobody tries to get in this kangaroo's pouch and go for a ride.
